4 everyday myths about intuition
Intuition is the ability to tap into the spirit world and get a particular insight into a circumstance in your reality.
Whether it’s a sixth sense, a “gut feeling” or the more common “instinct”, that’s what we’re talking about when we talk about intuition.
The exciting thing about intuition is that it is like a muscle that we can develop and learn to trust.
Where does intuition come from?
Our intuition is like a radio channel that we can tap into and get broader perspectives in our lives; it is always there. Rather than accepting the seen, heard and logical facets of our lives, we can live even more rewarding lives by tapping into the unseen nuances of this reality.
Have you ever learned a body language gesture? You may have heard that when someone touches their ears while telling you a story, it shows that the person is exaggerating or even lying. This understanding of body language and what people are “saying” is very similar to what it feels like to operate from your deepest intuitive instincts.
As far as the physical body parts are concerned, intuition belongs to the main endocranial glands, the pituitary, pituitary and phypotalamus. They are often called the 3rd eye vision. But I can add the 3rd ear, the hearing and the 2nd heart.
In teaching courses, both remote and on ZOOM, I explain all this in detail and we work on the development of these parts of the brain.
“Intuition is like a muscle that you can develop.”
What is intuition good for?
To bust the myths about intuition, we need to look at what intuition is and how it works in your life.
Intuition is especially useful for staying on top of your career, navigating tricky complications in your relationships or family, and making personal decisions that affect you. When we listen to intuition, we can “see” intentions, motivations and opportunities that can save us time and money, and prepare us for impending challenges.
However, there are a variety of misconceptions about intuition that can hinder our ability to fully utilize our intuition. These myths can prevent us from accessing something we are more than capable of using in our daily lives.
Myth #1: Intuition only comes to “super spiritual” people.
People who appear to be super-spiritual and “advanced” are not the only ones who tap into intuitive power. Very often in my sessions with different people, I find that children as young as three can exhibit incredible intuition (more than most adults). This is easily understandable because children are usually not tainted by the various aspects of life that can prevent trust from “picking up” the ongoing dialogue that the spirit world is trying to have with us through our intuition.
If you thought that intuition is only for people who seem to have a deep spiritual life, you would be surprised to find that this could not be further from the truth. The spiritual world has no favorites and there is no hierarchy between “special” and “ordinary” people. You are just as likely as anyone else to tune into an intuitive frequency.
Myth #2: Intuition is only for the gifted
We’ve moved away (thankfully) from the idea that psychics are only women found at community fairs looking into a crystal ball.
The world of intuition professionals has expanded considerably over the past decade, with even men (myself included) taking center stage and offering their energy work to the world. However, it’s not an exclusive club and I’ll tell you why.
It can be tempting to elevate a psychic’s status above your own, assuming that they know more than you do and that you should therefore consider their gift more “special” than yours.
It is important to break the myth that the world of clairvoyance is reserved for “gifted” people, as we avoid elevating people above others and putting too much power in their hands.
Intuition is certainly not reserved for psychics. I have seen evidence of this in my own practice with my clients. Often, my own clients have told me things off the cuff and I have been totally surprised at how intuitive they are in saying such things.
“Intuition is certainly not just for psychics”.
Myth #3: Your “gut” is always right.
It’s true that you often feel like you’re walking a tightrope, blindfolded, in your spiritual life. Sometimes you are desperate for tangible evidence that you are on the right track, and other times things seem to flow effortlessly.
You may realize that the hunches or instincts you’ve had have proven to be true all along. At this point, it may be tempting to follow only your instincts, ignoring any sound advice.
But you can run into problems if you always rely on your instincts. Sometimes your intuitions and instincts may have more to do with anatomical responses than with spiritual insight. Because your gut instinct obviously resonates in your stomach/abdominal area/digestive organs, you might overlook the fact that it could be a pseudo “gut instinct” due to your gut health.
If your body is currently more acidic (as opposed to alkaline), you may find that divine messages from the spiritual are being scrambled and lost. You can prevent your gut from being invaded by these pseudo-messages by consuming less caffeine, nicotine, processed foods and sodas.
The more your body is radiating nutritional health, the clearer and more accurate your gut function will be and the more you can trust the reliability of your intuition.
“Sometimes intuitions and instincts are more of an anatomical response.”
Myth #4: Women are more intuitive than men
It might seem like women have more sixth sense than men, but that’s not really a fact. The reason it might seem that women have more intuition is that they are more likely to pay attention to that frequency, unlike men. There is a truth to this. Even the traditional texts of the Indian Vedas mention that women have 9 times stronger feeling components in their minds.
But the trend is taking a new direction now. Today more than ever, men are stepping into their spiritual awareness and letting their intuition guide them. Men and women may pay attention to different forms of intuition, which could also contribute to the myth that women are more intuitive.
For example, women may have more intuitive dreams that they can interpret and share with friends, while men may experience intuition in a more nuanced way through their third eye, seeing the mind with clairvoyance and keeping that intuition more secret.
